Essential Exterior Home Services in Worcester County
Knowing which exterior services your home needs is only half the battle. The other half is knowing when to book them. In central Massachusetts, the calendar is shaped by pollen, leaf drop and freezing weather, and scheduling the right work at the right moment gets better results with less effort. Here is a seasonal approach that works well for most homes in Worcester County.
Early Spring: Recover From Winter
Once the snowbanks shrink, typically in late March or April, walk around the house and look for winter damage. Ice and heavy snow can bend gutter hangers, pull downspouts loose and tear window screens. Sand and salt splashed from the road leave a crust along the lower siding and on ground-floor glass.
This is a good time for a gutter check, especially if trees around your property dropped seed pods or catkins during early spring. It is also the moment to get torn screens fixed before you need them; our screen cleaning and repairs service handles that.
Late Spring: Wash Away the Pollen
Pine and oak pollen arrive in force in May, coating cars, decks and windows in yellow dust. Hold off on window cleaning until the worst of it has passed, usually by early June. Then a full wash of the glass, frames and sills will stay clean much longer. The same goes for siding and decks: washing after pollen season means you enjoy the result all summer.
Summer: Outdoor Living Season
Summer is ideal for power washing patios, walkways, driveways and fences, since surfaces dry quickly in the heat. If you plan to stain or seal a deck, washing it a few days beforehand gives the coating a clean surface to bond to. Summer is also a good time to address gutter face stains while the weather is dry and predictable.
Fall: Prepare for Freezing Weather
Fall is the most important season for exterior care in this part of the state. Leaves come down from late September through November, and gutters need to be clear before the first hard freeze. Scheduling a cleanout after the majority of leaves have dropped, often in November, gives you the best chance of entering winter with an open system. Read more on our gutter cleaning page.
A final round of window cleaning in fall maximizes daylight through the darker months and removes the grime of summer before it bakes on.
Winter: Plan and Watch
Outdoor work slows down in winter, but it is a good time to watch how your home handles water. Note where icicles form, which downspouts freeze and whether any areas around the foundation stay wet. Those observations help guide spring repairs.
- Spring: gutter check, screen repairs, winter damage review
- Early summer: windows and siding after pollen season
- Summer: decks, patios, driveways
- Late fall: gutter cleanout and a final window wash
