Compare the Best Professional Window and Gutter Cleaning Packages

Many exterior cleaning companies sell their work in packages: gutters only, windows only, or a combined visit with optional extras. On paper that makes shopping simple. In practice, two packages with nearly identical names can include very different amounts of work. The way to compare them fairly is to break each one into its parts and ask what you are really getting.

The Building Blocks of a Package

Almost every offering is assembled from the same components. Knowing them lets you read any quote with confidence.

Gutter work

At minimum, a gutter cleaning package should cover hand removal of debris from every run, a flush of each downspout and cleanup of anything that lands on the lawn or beds. Some providers stop at the gutter channel and never test the downspouts, which leaves the most common clog point untouched.

Window work

Window packages vary more. Exterior-only service is common for upper floors, while full service adds interior glass, sills and tracks. Ask whether screens are removed and cleaned or simply brushed in place. Details like that are where quality shows up. Our residential window cleaning page explains how water-fed poles let crews reach second- and third-story glass from the ground.

Add-ons

Common extras include removing the black streaks that form on the outside face of gutters, washing siding or walkways, and minor gutter repairs. Exterior gutter stain removal is a popular add-on because those streaks are often what makes a clean house still look tired from the street.

How to Compare Quotes Side by Side

Write each quote out as a simple list and check it against these questions:

  • Does the gutter portion include downspout flushing and ground cleanup?
  • Are windows cleaned inside and out, or exterior only?
  • Are screens, sills and tracks included or extra?
  • Is the company fully insured for ladder and lift work?
  • What happens if something is missed?
  • Does the package require a contract or recurring commitment?

Once each quote is broken down this way, the cheapest option sometimes turns out to be the thinnest, and the middle option often delivers the most for the money.

When a Combined Visit Makes Sense

Bundling windows and gutters into one appointment is efficient for most Massachusetts homes, and the order matters. Gutters are cleaned first, so any splatter or drips land on glass that is about to be washed anyway. Spring is a natural time for a combined visit, after winter grime and pollen have coated the windows and storms have filled the gutters with twigs and seed pods. Fall works well too, as long as the leaves have mostly come down.

A combined package is less useful if one service is needed far more often than the other. A house surrounded by pines may need gutters cleared more often than its windows need washing. In that case, separate visits timed to each need can be the smarter buy.

Red Flags in the Fine Print

Be cautious about packages that lock you into a long agreement, charge cancellation fees, or bury key tasks under vague labels like "standard service." A clear provider will tell you exactly what is included before the crew arrives and will put it in writing.
